“The so-called 'Left-Hand Path' - that of Kaulas, Siddhas and Viras - combines the... Tantric worldview with a doctrine of the Übermensch which would put Nietzsche to shame... The Vira - which is to say: the 'heroic' man of Tantrism - seeks to sever all bonds, to overcome all duality between good and evil, honor and shame, virtue and guilt. Tantrism is the supreme path of the absolute absence of law - of shvecchacarÄ«, a word meaning 'he whose law is his own will'." ― Julius Evola, The Path of Cinnabar.

“It is necessary to have “watchers” at hand who will bear witness to the values of Tradition in ever more uncompromising and firm ways, as the anti-traditional forces grow in strength. Even though these values cannot be achieved, it does not mean that they amount to mere “ideas.” These are measures…. Let people of our time talk about these things with condescension as if they were anachronistic and anti-historical; we know that this is an alibi for their defeat. Let us leave modern men to their “truths” and let us only be concerned about one thing: to keep standing amid a world of ruins.” ― Julius Evola, Revolt Against the Modern World: Politics, Religion, and Social Order in the Kali Yuga.

“We are born into this time and must bravely follow the path to the destined end. There is no other way. Our duty is to hold on to the lost position, without hope, without rescue, like that Roman soldier whose bones were found in front of a door in Pompeii, who died at his post during the eruption of Vesuvius because someone forgot to relieve him. That is greatness. That is what it means to be a thoroughbred. The honorable end is the one that can not be taken from a man.” ― Oswald Spengler, Man and Technics: A Contribution to a Philosophy of Life.

Walpurgisnacht 2012

A harvest of life a harvest of death
One body of life one body of death
And when you've gone and choked to death
With laughter and a little step
I'll prepare the quicklime, friend
For your ripe and ready grave

"Hitler Hex Party" 1941

“On the wet windy evening of January 22, a youthful band of idealists went to a lonely cabin in the Maryland woods.”

Thus begins one of the odder stories LIFE magazine ever published — a straightforward, tongue-nowhere-near-cheek account of a 1941 “hex party” convened with one aim in mind: “to kill Adolf Hitler by voodoo incantation.” According to LIFE, the party featured “a dressmaker’s dummy, a Nazi uniform, nails, axes, tom-toms and plenty of Jamaica rum,” and was inspired by a book by occultist and writer William Seabrook that was popular at the time: Witchcraft: Its Power in the World Today.

Witchcraft or no witchcraft, these Nazi-haters knew how to party.

Revelers make their way to a "Hitler hex party" in the Maryland Woods, 1941.

"For an hour after their arrival," LIFE drily noted, "the young sorcerers bedeviled themselves with rum." Inspired by his writings, they had also asked Seabrook to join them at the cabin. "He readily accepted, seeing in the event a chance not only to test his theories, but also to render a service to mankind." Above: Chief Hexer Ted Caldwell intones an incantation. On the right, in dark shirt and tie, is Seabrook himself, while the star of the show, Hitler's effigy, sits with its back to the window.

William Seabrook adjusts the rented West Indian robe worn by (in LIFE's words) "dark handsome" Florence Birdseye and shows her how to dress her hair for the hexing ceremony. Seabrook was something of a high-profile wild man during his brief career as a best-selling author, hanging out with the likes of Aleister Crowley and famously chronicling his travel adventures -- as, for example, when he dined with West African cannibals. "It was like good, fully developed veal," he wrote of his first taste of human flesh, "not young, but not yet beef ... and it was not like any other meat I had ever tasted."

The tom-tom drums were borrowed, LIFE noted, from the U.S. Department of the Interior. "No cultists, [the hexers] were respectable residents of Washington, D.C.," LIFE wrote. The Maryland cabin where the hexing took place belonged to one Charles Tupper, who worked in a Naval factory. Above: Seabrook demonstrates the proper tom-tom rhythm for a legitimate hex, while Florence Birdseye -- of the Birdseye frozen-food family -- keeps the beat on the right.

Florence Birdseye chants above the Hitler effigy. "The ritual," LIFE wrote, "prepared by Mr. Seabrook, began with the naming of the image: 'You are Hitler; Hitler is you!' Next the chief hexer intoned: 'The woes that come to you, let it come to him!'"

Florence Birdseye directs a curse at Hitler's (or rather, his effigy's) reputedly sensitive throat. According to the LIFE article: "The chief hexer again intoned: 'Hitler! You are the enemy of man and of the world; therefore we curse you. We curse you by every tear and drop of blood you have caused to flow. We curse you with the curses of all who have cursed you ...!' After each line the entire group responded: 'We curse you!'"

Hexers approach the enemy, weapons at the ready.

"Nails in eyes induce insomnia," LIFE reported. "As she jabs, Ruth Davis croons: 'Burn Hitler's eyes! Keep them open night and day! Kill his rest!'"

A small Hitler doll is confronted with a chicken bone -- according to Seabrook, a "symbol of famine." Dolls like the one Florence Birdseye holds in this shot "may be bought at any 5 and 10¢ store," LIFE helpfully informed its readers.

"The occult ceremony climaxes as hexers hammer nails into the heart and throat of the image of Hitler," LIFE reported. "The hexers called on the pagan deity, Istan, to transmit the image's wounds to the flesh of the living Hitler ... chanting in unison: 'We are driving nails and needles into Adolf Hitler's heart!'"

"Thoroughly maltreated, thoroughly cursed," read the caption that accompanied this picture in the February 10, 1941 issue of LIFE, "Hitler's image lies amid ceremonial debris. Logs served as seats to hexers according to Haitian custom."

As William Seabrook looks on, "decapitation terminates the brief life span of Adolf Hitler's dummy." Seabrook -- who struggled with alcoholism and at one point was committed, by his own request, to a mental hospital outside of New York City -- committed suicide in September, 1945.

"Hitler is buried in deep pine woods to be devoured by worms," wrote LIFE of this final image in the article. "After burial, hexers were exhausted by compounded impact of drums, ritual, emotion." And booze. Don't forget the booze.

Shady Companies With Ties to Israel Wiretap the U.S. for the NSA

From James Bamford at Wired.com:

Shady Companies With Ties to Israel Wiretap the U.S. for the NSA
By James Bamford Email Author April 3, 2012 | 6:30 am

....But one of the agency’s biggest secrets is just how careless it is with that ocean of very private and very personal communications, much of it to and from Americans. Increasingly, obscure and questionable contractors — not government employees — install the taps, run the agency’s eavesdropping infrastructure, and do the listening and analysis.

....In fact, according to Binney, the advanced analytical and data mining software the NSA had developed for both its worldwide and international eavesdropping operations was secretly passed to Israel by a mid-level employee, apparently with close connections to the country. The employee, a technical director in the Operations Directorate, “who was a very strong supporter of Israel,” said Binney, “gave, unbeknownst to us, he gave the software that we had, doing these fast rates, to the Israelis.”

....But Binney now suspects that Israeli intelligence in turn passed the technology on to Israeli companies who operate in countries around the world, including the U.S. In return, the companies could act as extensions of Israeli intelligence and pass critical military, economic and diplomatic information back to them. “And then five years later, four or five years later, you see a Narus device,” he said. “I think there’s a connection there, we don’t know for sure.”

Narus was formed in Israel in November 1997 by six Israelis with much of its money coming from Walden Israel, an Israeli venture capital company. Its founder and former chairman, Ori Cohen, once told Israel’s Fortune Magazine that his partners have done technology work for Israeli intelligence. And among the five founders was Stanislav Khirman, a husky, bearded Russian who had previously worked for Elta Systems, Inc. A division of Israel Aerospace Industries, Ltd., Elta specializes in developing advanced eavesdropping systems for Israeli defense and intelligence organizations. At Narus, Khirman became the chief technology officer.

A few years ago, Narus boasted that it is “known for its ability to capture and collect data from the largest networks around the world.” The company says its equipment is capable of “providing unparalleled monitoring and intercept capabilities to service providers and government organizations around the world” and that “Anything that comes through [an Internet protocol network], we can record. We can reconstruct all of their e-mails, along with attachments, see what Web pages they clicked on, we can reconstruct their [Voice over Internet Protocol] calls.”

Like Narus, Verint was founded by in Israel by Israelis, including Jacob “Kobi” Alexander, a former Israeli intelligence officer. Some 800 employees work for Verint, including 350 who are based in Israel, primarily working in research and development and operations, according to the Jerusalem Post. Among its products is STAR-GATE, which according to the company’s sales literature, lets “service providers … access communications on virtually any type of network, retain communication data for as long as required, and query and deliver content and data …” and was “[d]esigned to manage vast numbers of targets, concurrent sessions, call data records, and communications.”

In a rare and candid admission to Forbes, Retired Brig. Gen. Hanan Gefen, a former commander of the highly secret Unit 8200, Israel’s NSA, noted his former organization’s influence on Comverse, which owns Verint, as well as other Israeli companies that dominate the U.S. eavesdropping and surveillance market. “Take NICE, Comverse and Check Point for example, three of the largest high-tech companies, which were all directly influenced by 8200 technology,” said Gefen. “Check Point was founded by Unit alumni. Comverse’s main product, the Logger, is based on the Unit’s technology.”

According to a former chief of Unit 8200, both the veterans of the group and much of the high-tech intelligence equipment they developed are now employed in high-tech firms around the world. “Cautious estimates indicate that in the past few years,” he told a reporter for the Israeli newspaper Ha’artez in 2000, “Unit 8200 veterans have set up some 30 to 40 high-tech companies, including 5 to 10 that were floated on Wall Street.” Referred to only as “Brigadier General B,” he added, “This correlation between serving in the intelligence Unit 8200 and starting successful high-tech companies is not coincidental: Many of the technologies in use around the world and developed in Israel were originally military technologies and were developed and improved by Unit veterans.”

Equally troubling is the issue of corruption. Kobi Alexander, the founder and former chairman of Verint, is now a fugitive, wanted by the FBI on nearly three dozen charges of fraud, theft, lying, bribery, money laundering and other crimes. And two of his top associates at Comverse, Chief Financial Officer David Kreinberg and former General Counsel William F. Sorin, were also indicted in the scheme and later pleaded guilty, with both serving time in prison and paying millions of dollars in fines and penalties.

La Santa Muerte (Saint Death)

In Mexico there is a cult that is rapidly growing- the cult of Saint Death. This female grim reaper, considered a saint by followers but Satanic by the Catholic Church, is worshiped by people whose lives are filled with danger and/or violence- criminals, gang members, transvestites, sick people, drug addicts, and families living in rough neighborhoods. “La Santa Muerte” examines the origins of the cult and takes us on a tour of the altars, jails, and neighborhoods in Mexico where the saint’s most devoted followers can be found.

Interesting; shortly after posting the above, the following article came up in my news feed. Santa Muerte must be reading here:

Cult of the 'Holy Death': Eight arrested in Mexico after woman and two 10-year-old boys are 'ritually sacrificed'

The victims blood was found poured round an altar to an idol dressed in robes
Pagan/Catholic cult now has two million members

The 'Santa Muerte' (Holy Death) cult in Mexico places great importance on the dead

Eight people have been arrested in northern Mexico have over the killing of two 10-year-old boys and a woman in what appears to be ritual sacrifices.

Prosecutors in Sonora, in the north-west of the country have accused the suspects of belonging to the La Santa Muerte (Holy Death) cult.

The victims' blood has been poured round an altar to the idol, which is portrayed as a skeleton holding a scythe and clothed in flowing robes.

The cult, which celebrates death, has been growing rapidly in Mexico in the last 20 years, and now has up to two million followers.

Jose Larrinaga, spokesman for Sonora state prosecutors, said the most recent killing was earlier this month, while the other two were committed in 2009 and 2010.

Their bodies were found at the altar site in the small mining community of Nacozari, 70 miles south of Douglas, Arizona.

Investigations were launched after the family of 10-year-old Jesus Octavio Martinez Yanez reported him missing early this month.

Mr Larrinaga said the murders took place at a ritual during the night, lit by candles.

'They sliced open the victims' veins and, while they were still alive, they waited for them to bleed to death and collected the blood in a container,' he said.

It is believed the unofficial group called The Holy Death currently has some two million followers in Mexico
There have been no confirmed killings previously attributed to the cult, which follows a mix of Catholic faith with indigenous and pagan beliefs.

Many of those arrested belonged to the same family, reports said.

Silvia Meraz, one of the suspects, and her son, Ramon Palacios, were allegedly leaders of the cult, according to prosecutors.

Speaking to reporters, she said: 'We all agreed to do it. Supposedly she [one of the victims] was a witch or something.'

She did not comment on the other killings.

Beata solitudo, sofa beatitudo

One who is still an "Aryan" spirit in a large European or American city, with its skyscrapers and asphalt, with its politics and sport, with its crowds who dance and shout, with its exponents of secular culture and of soulless science and so on—among all this he may feel himself more alone and detached and nomad than he would have done in the rime of the Buddha, in conditions of physical isolation and of actual wandering. The greatest difficulty, in this respect, lies in giving this sense of internal isolation, which today may occur to many almost spontaneously, a positive, full, simple, and transparent character, with elimination of all traces of aridity, melancholy, discord, or anxiety. Solitude should not be a burden, something that is suffered, that is borne involuntarily, or in which refuge is taken by force of circumstances, but rather, a natural, simple, and free disposition, in a text we read: "Solitude is called wisdom [ekattam monam akkhatarin], he who is alone will find that he is happy"; it is an accentuated version of "beata solitudo, sofa beatitudo."
-- Julius Evola, The Doctrine of Awakening, p. 103
